Shanmuga Industries Arts & Science College is one of the best examples of the decentralization and participative management. The institution has a decentralized governance system and allows equal participation of all the stakeholders by election of secretary three years once. The management holds regular meetings with the staff members and receives inputs from them. All the minutes of individual committee meetings as well as staff meetings are communicated via circulars. The management encourages participative governance and provides ample opportunity to all the staff members to involve in the college developmental process.

Role of Academic Dean:

  • Implement academic policies established by the College.
  • To provide leadership, working with the faculty, to achieve the mission of the college in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • To respond to student academic concerns and seek resolution at the faculty level, ensuring that accurate records of these issues are kept in the Dean's office.
  • To ensure completion of assessment for all curricular majors.
  • To provide leadership in the area of faculty development and professional growth

  • Role of Principal:

  • Monitoring the functioning of the academic and administrative staff and to see that they fulfill all their responsibilities as prescribed.
  • Monitoring the conduct of both administrative and academic staff in terms of their regularity, discipline and conduct.
  • Monitoring the student discipline and conduct (including attendance) and maintaining the decorum of the institution.
  • Monitoring effective teaching as per the prescribed curriculum and as per the teaching / institutional methodology suggested by the University / AICTE / Management.
  • Monitoring all the procedures to be followed by the office which include admission, fee collection, attendance, recruitment, salary payments, purchases and procurements, accounts and audit and any such other matter related to the administration of the college.
  • Monitoring the conduct of meetings on behalf of the institution which include the meetings of staff, HoDs, Coordinators, College Academic Council and the Governing Council.
  • Monitoring the procurement and purchase of the entire necessary infrastructure like furniture & fittings, lab equipment, books and any such other requirement for the institution as per the prescribed procedures
  • Monitoring the auditing and inspections of the institution conducted by the regulator bodies such as AICTE, government, and university apart from the ones conducted by the top management.
  • Maintaining the infrastructure of the institution with the help of concerned staff and protecting the life and property of all those connected with the institution.
  • Maintaining cordial relations with the staff, students, parents, and with all those connected to the institution both directly and indirectly.
  • Open door policy to encourage faculty members to approach the head of the institution
  • Liberal approach is entertained by the head of the institution to encourage growth and development of faculty members
  • Faculty members are treated equally and provide opportunities to share their opinions and ideas for the betterment of the college
  • Discussions and meetings are the college organized with the faculty members for the smooth functioning of the college
  • Ideas and suggestions are invited from them and the same is incorporated for the progress of the institution
  • Team work is a part of the SIASC and is reflected on the functioning of the college.

  • Role of Vice Principal:

  • The Vice-Principal play a role in the absence of the Principal, assume the duties and responsibilities of the Principal.
  • Other duties of the Vice-Principal are considered to be mutual discussion with the Principal.

  • Role of Head of the Departments

  • To incorporate within the aims and ethos of the department and achieve vision and mission of the college.
  • To ensure that all relevant College policies are applied in the organization and work of the department.
  • Actively assisting and ensuring the good professional practice, standards, and quality of teaching and learning of subjects through proper dialogue with the class teachers.
  • To guide and assist each member of the department and to utilise the particular skills and strengths of each teacher.
  • To monitor the quality of teaching in the department and to ensure that it is of the highest possible standard.
  • To promote the well being of each member of the teaching staff.
  • To build a team of teachers in the department and to involve the whole department in decision - making.
  • Setting examination papers, co-ordinating marking schemes and moderating examinations and assessment processes.
  • To help each student to make the most of his or her ability and to enhance each student's quality of learning.
  • Ensuring timely and adequate provision of textbooks, materials, and equipment required for the effective teaching of the subject.
  • Preparing specifications and budgets for the requirements of the subject specific teaching tools and equipment, including laboratory equipment.
  • Holding and leading regular departmental meetings and ensuring the keeping of minutes.

  • Role of faculty members

  • A faculty shall engage classes regularly and punctually and impart such lessons and develop methodology to educate students about the topic (problem solving, small group discussions, etc.) and then implementing the same in the classroom.
  • To maintain a high sense of dedication towards duties and responsibilities.
  • To discharge all the duties and responsibilities assigned by the Principal, Dean and Head of the department from time to time
  • Prepares and executes Lesson Plan.
  • Completing syllabus within the stipulated time.
  • Maintain attendance record, personal records, academic records of the students.
  • Prepare CIA test questions of each subjects and Evaluates CIA tests.
  • Conduct parent teacher meeting to discuss students overall progression.
  • Organizes need based workshop/seminars / symposia / visits/ excursions etc. by coordinating with the concerned HOD.
